Tuition
Come and learn to make jewellery in my bright and welcoming studio in King’s Lynn, Norfolk. Discover the magic of turning silver wire and sheet into rings, earrings, necklaces and bangles for yourself or to give as gifts.
Most of my sessions are one to one or one to two to enable me to really focus on what you want to make so that you get the best out of your time. If you book to come by yourself I will not book anyone else in with you, unless you have invited them.
I do not offer set projects, preferring to work individually with you as we discover your particular strengths and preferences. If you are looking for a general introduction to silversmithing, we usually start with stacking rings or simple earrings. However some people have a definite idea of what they want to make, such as a spinner ring incorporating a relative’s wedding ring or a special gift for someone. You can even come and make your own wedding rings! If you already have some experience you may wish to try a new technique to expand your existing skills. I provide notes to take away and advice if you would like to continue your silversmithing journey at home.
Many people worry that they are not ‘artistic’ or ‘creative’ but even if you have not picked up a coloured pencil since primary school, you will be able to make yourself something you will be proud to wear!
Some of the skills you may learn are: measuring and cutting metal, filing and sanding, soldering, fusing, polishing, saw piecing, working with wire and pliers and creating textures on metal. With some experience you can move on to riveting, keum boo and stone setting using bezels, tubes and prong settings.
Tuition Costs
One to One
Per hour - £30
Half day 3 hours - £90
Full day 6 hours tuition - £150
Group Booking (2-3 People)
Per hour - £25 each
Half day 3 hours - £75 each
Full day 6 hours tuition - £125 each
Use of Materials on the Day
Silver and any large stones used are extra and payable on the day. As a rough guide, in a half day making stacking rings you might expect to finish a set of 5 rings costing around £8, whereas 3 silver bangles would cost £30 or more. If you decide to make earrings, the costs will be less. I have a large selection of beads which are free to use for earrings. If you make a pendant you may wish to buy a chain on the day.
